Turn an iPad’s LCD Screen into an Extra Screen for Your Laptop

Turn an iPad’s LCD Screen into an Extra Screen for Your Laptop

If you're looking for some extra screen real estate for your laptop, Ben at weblog build-its has a guide on taking apart an iPad LCD screen and using it as a second monitor.

This setup is different than the Air Display app we featured in the past, as it requires some technical know-how and only uses the iPad screen component, not an actual iPad. Ben managed to snag some iPad 3 LCDs on eBay for $50 a piece and discovered that internally, they use a displayport interface. After splicing the ribbon connector into a displayport cable, you just need to add a backlight driver and you can use the display with any computer. The screen only needs a displayport and USB port to work, but keep in mind that Ben had to do some component searching to get the screen running at a higher brightness setting.

Ben is working on a custom case to enclose everything, but in the meantime, for instructions on how to make one yourself, check out the link below.
