Most Popular Android Keyboard: SwiftKey

Most Popular Android Keyboard: SwiftKey

If you're looking for a better mobile typing experience on your Android phone, you have tons of options. Last week, we asked you for your favorites, then we looked at the five best Android keyboards based on those nominations. Now we're back to highlight the crowd favorite.

Most Popular Android Keyboard: SwiftKey

Knocking it out of the park with over 53% of the overall vote was SwiftKey , the swipe-to-type Android keyboard with predictive text, custom dictionaries, cloud-saved preferences, and the ability to learn from the way you type. It probably doesn't hurt that SwiftKey recently went free, dropping its premium price tag and opening the door to the masses. Still, it was the top dog last time we asked about your favorite keyboards, and its lead has only grown since then.

In second place with close to 26% of the vote was the Google Keyboard , a keyboard which barely placed last time, but since then has added swipe-to-type, predictive text, and the ability to learn from the way you use other Google services. For many of you, there's just no need to install another keyboard—Google's baked in one does everything for you. Third place goes to Swype , with close to 14% of the overall vote. The keyboard that started the gesture typing phenomenon is still going strong, and adding features like "living language," which adds words based on their use on the web, and easy language switching. Bringing in 5% of the vote and fourth place was Fleksy , a minimalist keyboard that's customizable and boasts autocorrect so strong that even the visually impaired could use it. Finally, in fifth place with 2% of the vote was Minuum , the minimalist keyboard that gives you more screen space and a single keyboard row at the bottom of the screen.

The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five.
