Most Popular Home Printer: Brother HL-2270DW

If you're looking for a cost-effective and reliable home printer, you have plenty of options. Last week we asked for your favorites, then took a look at the five best home printers, based on your nominations. Now we're back to crown the crowd favorite.

Most Popular Home Printer: Brother HL-2270DW

The Brother HL-2270DW , a fast, affordable, and rock solid monochrome laser printer that also earned praise from The Wirecutter, took the top spot in our poll with 37% of the votes cast. It's no surprise—it's small enough to fit anywhere, Wi-Fi capable, cheap to run, and super-fast.

Behind it in second place with 29% of the overall vote was the HP OfficeJet 8600 : a solid multifunction color inkjet that, even though it's been recently updated, is still a great buy, has cheap ink, and tons of features on-board, including Wi-Fi, a WebOS powered interface, and tons of smart "apps" for the printer that turn it into a kind of personal assistant. In third with just shy of 15% of the vote was the Epson WorkForce WF-3540 , another affordable and richly featured multifunction color inkjet that's just as useful in your home office as much as in a corporate one. Fourth place went to the other Epson in the roundup, the Epson WorkForce WF-2540 , an affordable multifunction color inkjet that can go anywhere in your home office. Bringing up the rear with 9% of the vote was the Brother MFC-7420 and its spiritual successor, the MFC7360 multifunction laser printer.

The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five.
