The WinYosamite Desktop

The WinYosamite Desktop

Reader Saifali caught Apple's unveiling of OS X "Yosemite" last week and wanted to bring at least some of the look to his Windows machine. The right wallpaper and a little Rainmeter is all it takes. Here's how he set it up.

Saifali submitted his desktop to our Desktop Showcase , which is what you should do if you want to see your desktop featured here! All you need to do is post a screenshot to your Kinja blog (the one that came with your commenter account) along with the wallpaper, widgets, and other tools you used to customize it.

Here's what you'll need if you want to duplicate this on your Windows machine:

  • The Yosemite wallpaper

  • The Rainmeter system tweaking and monitoring tool for Windows

  • The Enigma skin for Rainmeter to create the right-side "notification center" sidebar, with Now Playing, system status, weather, and calendar widgets

  • The Portal 2 Desktop Theme for Rainmeter for the clock and date in the upper left corner

That's all you'll need. It's simple and straightforward, and doesn't take a ton of skins to customize. We think the finished product looks solid, but of course, if you have questions about how to set it up or how any of the components work, head over to Saifali's Kinja blog (linked below) to ask your questions or sing your praises.

Do you have a good-looking, functional desktop of your own to show off? Share it with us! Post it to your personal Kinja blog using the tag desktop showcase or add it to our Lifehacker Desktop Show and Tell Flickr pool . Screenshots must be at least at least 640x360 and please include information about what you used, links to your wallpaper, skins, and themes, and any other relevant details. If your awesome desktop catches our eye, you might get featured!
