FreedomPop Unveils New Free iPhone Voice, Text, and Data Plans

FreedomPop, makers of one of our favorite mobile hotspots and some seriously low-cost (or free) mobile data plans, announced today that they're rolling out free and budget-friendly voice, text, and mobile data plans for iPhone users looking to save some money.

iPhone owners can either bring their own device to FreedomPop or buy an iPhone 5 directly for $349. FreedomPop's free plan includes 200 minutes of voice, 500 texts, and 500MB of mobile data each month. If you need more, unlimited plans will start around $5/mo and vary (likely depending on whether you need unlimited texts, voice, or data.)

Even if you don't switch to FreedomPop, the FreedomPop iPhone app gives you free voice calls and texts. It sends them all over mobile data so you can downgrade the number of minutes and texts you have with your current carrier.

The new service isn't perfect though—FreedomPop still charges a monthly "active service fee" even on free accounts, and you have to essentially hand over your email address and other info to walk through the sign-up process before their site shows you enough info to decide if you even want the service. Still, if you're an iPhone owner looking to save some cash, it might be a good option.
