Wait for a Clean Slate Opportunity to Start a New Habit

When you clean the slate of one old habit due to a life change, take that opportunity to start a completely new habit at the same time.

As you create a new routine to deal with the change, change other habits as well. Pick up a new one or get rid of an old one.

You are already mixing things up in your routine, so the change seems less dramatic-even if it's unrelated. For example, let's say you recently moved. You need to plan when to leave for work and the route you are going to take to get there. Now is the time to figure out where in that commute you'll stop by the gym. In fact, Psychology Today reports that 36% of successful changes were associated with a move to a new location.
