iOS: The iPhone already has some great photography apps to complement its fantastic camera, but Vhoto brings something new to the table. Instead of a single photo, it shoots a short video and then auto-picks photos out of that.
It's a simple matter of hitting the record button to start and stop shooting. Once you stop, Vhoto takes a few seconds to process and then gives a thumbnailed grid of still images based on the least amount of blur in any frame. Pick the ones you like, choose to add filters or perform basic image edits, and save or share it. There is even a mini social network like Instagram, but given how few users it has at the moment, that's not really worth it.
The advantage of Vhoto is that you don't miss a good moment or get photos where some people have their eyes shut. In any non-posed shot, in fact, Vhoto is a better option than a regular camera app—but the caveat is that the quality of photos from Vhoto is only as good as posting on social networks, not much more.
Proper camera apps do score higher in the actual quality of the photo because you can tap to focus and because you get LED flash instead of video LED light—the former is better at highlighting a still image.
That said, Vhoto is still a good camera app and one you should use if the scene has movement or is a candid capture.
