Time Yourself at the Grocery Store to Prevent Overspending

Time Yourself at the Grocery Store to Prevent Overspending

Moseying around a supermarket is a surefire way to spend more money than you planned to. Set yourself a time limit to make sure you get in and out of the store with only what you need.

To keep yourself from grabbing things you didn't put on your shopping list, Apartment Therapy suggests picking a set amount of time you're allowed to be in the grocery store. Time yourself the next time you go shopping and then try to beat that time by 20% on the next round. You can even use a timer on your phone that let's you know when time is up.

This will help you cut back on unnecessary spending and, as we've mentioned before, can even be applied to other types of shopping too. If you've been good, it's also okay to give yourself a little "flex spending" in your grocery budget. For example, you can treat yourself with a five dollar allowance per trip or limit yourself to a single impulse item per week. Hit the link for more grocery saving tips.
