The Surprising Things You Can Recycle or Donate, from A to Z

The Surprising Things You Can Recycle or Donate, from A to Z

Beyond newpapers and plastic bottles, there are a ton of items you can help keep out of our landfills and recycled for better use. Real Simple's A to Z guide points out a few uncommon ones.

For example, antiperspirant and deodarant stick containers could go in the plastics recycling bin (but check the bottom of the container to be sure), as can empty containers of Elmer's glue and glue sticks. You can donate crayons—yes even the broken little bits your kid won't touch—to the National Crayon Recycle Program or styrofoam peanuts and other packing materials to several places, such as UPS.

The list even answers the common question about recycling envelopes that have plastic windows or tissue boxes with plastic dispensers: Go ahead and recycle them as paper/cardboard. During the recycling process, the plastic parts will be filtered out. Hurray!
