Pin Short Notes and Reference Information to the Windows Taskbar

Pin Short Notes and Reference Information to the Windows Taskbar

The taskbar sure is handy for quickly accessing your favorite programs and file quickly accessing your favorite programs and files, but did you know you could also use it to create a jump list of important information, such as phone numbers?

How-To Geek Shows us how. First you'll create a folder somewhere on your computer called "Phone Numbers" or "RGB codes" or the like. Then right-click on the taskbar, go to Toolbars, and select "New toolbar..." so you can pick that folder.

To create a new note, save an empty Notepad file with extension .lnk and the content of your note as the filename (e.g., "Mom 515-515-5555.lnk)" in the folder you created. How-To Geek also suggests yo can create a template for this or set up a batch file to make creating new notes easier.

Some things to keep in mind: You won't be able to use any of the characters Windows doesn't allow for filenames (such as double quotes or question mark), and your notes should be 38-71 characaters long (depending on your display) if you don't want them to be truncated.

Otherwise, this is a pretty cool trick to keep oft-needed but also oft-forgotten information at your fingertips. Check out the full post for more details and instructions.
