Nomorobo Stops Annoying Robocalls and Telemarketers, Once and for All

Unwanted phone calls from telemarketers and machines are one of life's biggest annoyances. Nomorobo stops those unwanted calls in their tracks, so you don't have to put up with them any longer.

The free service won the FTC's $50,000 challenge to solve this issue. Nomorobo works with landline and cell phone services where you can set up simultaneous rings. Add Nomorobo as a number that will be rung when your phone gets a call and the service will monitor incoming calls.

Nomorobo compares caller numbers to its blacklist of illegal telemarketers and robocallers, compiled from complaints filed with state and federal regulators. If there's a match, Nomorobo stops the call after the first ring and issues a challenge to the caller to verify he/she is human.

A spokesperson for the service assures me that automated, legal calls you do want to get will come through, such as doctor's appointment reminders and school closing announcements.

I used to get several calls a day from "Unavailable" and "Rachel from Card Services." Blocking them on my phone service never worked, because their numbers kept changing. After setting up Nomorobo, my phone is refreshingly silent. (I saw "Unavailable" in caller ID, but Nomorobo stopped the call with the first ring.) Some unwanted calls may still get through, but you can report them to Nomorobo and have them blacklisted.

All in all, it's much easier than talking to telemarketers or buiding your own Raspberry Pi solution—and more effective than the Do Not Call Registry.
