Don’t Buy Anything For the First Half Hour at a Farmer’s Market

Don’t Buy Anything For the First Half Hour at a Farmer’s Market

To avoid wasting food and money at a farmer's market, celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian recommends not buying anything at all for the first 30 minutes you're there.

Farmer's markets have every fresh fruit and vegetable you could ever want, so it's easy to go overboard. Zakarian shares a way to prevent that:

First things first: Don't buy anything for the first half-hour. See what you see. Ask for samples of everything. Then sit down for a minute and have a coffee and write down what you're going to buy. Don't be manic — everybody buys way too much. They get excited, they buy this and then say: "Why did I do that? This chocolate looks better, but I just bought this chocolate!" Just take a deep breath.

The first thing you see may look great, but there's always something better. Get out to your local farmer's market and see what you can find. If you're not sure where one is, we know of something that can show you.
