Bright Weather Combines Detailed Forecasts with a Pretty Interface

Android: Bright Weather is a new weather app from the makers of Beautiful Widgets, which puts detailed weather information over a pretty, easy-to-read interface.

The app is very similar to the ever-popular Yahoo Weather, so it's hard to talk about Bright Weather without comparing them. Like Yahoo Weather, it presents everything as an overlay over a background photo, with current conditions, a six day forecast, and current radar. It's pretty and easy to use, which for most of us, is all we need.

It does have a few advantages over Yahoo, however. Many of the panels are expandable, meaning you get a quick summary of everything unless you tap on it for more information. The interface swipes side-to-side instead of scrolling up and down, and provides notifications based on conditions you customize—like when the weather reaches below freezing, or above 90 degrees. Where Bright Widgets shines most, probably, is its inclusion of similarly styled widgets and its tablet-optimized interface—which make it an instant winner for anyone who wants those features.

Overall it's a solid weather app, and a good competitor to Yahoo—at least for its initial release. It is a bit more detailed, but also feels a bit more cluttered at times—especially with the ads that come with the free version (yuck). But, if you're willing to pay $2.79 to remove those ads with an in-app purchase, it looks quite a bit better.
