There are plenty of tools available to make searching for a new apartment easy, or at least easier than running around looking for "for rent" signs. Last week we asked for your favorites, then took a look at the five best apartment search tools. Now we're back to highlight the crowd favorite.
The tag team combo of Padmapper and Craigslist took the top spot, to no one's real surprise, by a wide margin—over 44% of the overall vote. Craigslist is generally the number one source for apartment listings, sublets, and other rentals, and Padmapper was one of the first—and still one of the best—sources that properly presents that data in a meaningful, customizable way.
In second place with 28% of the votes case was Trulia , the real estate website that also is host to tons of great rental listings, along with detailed information about the neighborhoods and markets you're looking to move into. Third place goes to WalkScore with 13% of the overall vote, largely because of its focus on livable neighborhoods and amenities that many people are looking for when they search for a rental. In fourth place with 7.6% of the vote was Lovely , the rental listing site that combines the best features of a top-down map-based service with services that streamline applying to rentals and even paying your rent. Bringing up the rear was Hotpads , with 7.2% of the vote.
