If you haven't had your 15 minutes of fame yet, you will. Look your best during an on-camera interview by keeping your hands in your lap, says communications blog Ragan.com.
Talking with your hands can be good, but on camera, things are a little different:
It's completely natural to use your hands when you speak. Body language plays a large role in the way we communicate. The problem is that when you are on news shows, you are usually shown from the chest up. When you move your hands in a chest-up shot, it looks like your hands are flying in and out of nowhere. As hard as it may be, it's best to keep those hands in your lap unless you are certain the camera is panned out enough. Otherwise, it will look as though Thing from "The Addams Family" is making a cameo during your spot.
Your voice will tell your story, not your hand gestures. Check out other tips for preparing for a recorded interview.
