We've previously shared some of the best ways to fix squeaky floors, but if screwing into the boards isn't your first choice, you can try talcum powder or cornstarch instead.
According to weblog WonderHowTo:
While this only applies to wooden floorboards that don't have carpet on top, you can also try fixing the squeak on your floor by dusting cornstarch in-between the floor boards to prevent the friction that causes the creak.
Floorboards can change sizes when they contract and expand, typically due to changes in humidity. This change in size causes some of the boards to rub up against nails or each other, creating the squeak that you hear. The idea with the cornstarch is to "lubricate" the sides to silence the squeaking.
